Muga Selección Especial Reserva Rioja - 1st Dec 2020
“Our wines combine
tradition and modernity, being a faithful reflection of some unique climatic
and orographic characteristics, which give our wines a marked personality.”
In a part of the
world where tradition and heritage play a defining role in the processes and
resulting flavour profile of the
wines, there are few – if any – wineries who have remained as steadfastly
committed to preserving the noble winemaking tradition of the Rioja, as Bodegas
Muga. Located in the historic train station district of Haro, at the epicenter of the great wine history of the Rioja, Muga has been crafting
traditional wines of character and distinction since 1932. Here, among a
handful of other pioneering neighbours, Muga was front and center in helping to
build the worldwide reputation and strong following of Rioja wine.
Cherry red in color, Muga Seleccion Especial Reserva
Rioja is a coupage of Tempranillo (70%), Grenache (20%), Mazuelo (7%) and
Graciano (3%). The wine offers aromas of ripe red fruits, spices, coffee, and
caramel. The palate is silky with tannin present, denoting youth and good aging
potential. Elegant and balanced!
The grapes are first fermented in oak deposits with local
yeast from their own vineyard. Muga Selección Especial Reserva then
undergoes a 26-month aging in oak barrels; the barrels are so special, that
Bodegas Muga is already one of the few wineries left today to continue with
their own cooperage in their facilities. Once bottled, Muga Selección
Especial Reserva undergoes a fining process of 12 months in the bottle
before it is released onto the market.
An excellent pair with red meats for your coming
Christmas celebration!
