Happy Anniversary to Brancaia!! - 17th Apr 2021
A modern face of luxury Italian wine founded by Swiss
Family, Brigette and Bruno Widmer exactly 40 years ago. Owning 3 vineyards in
the Tuscan estate, the critically acclaimed producer is well-known for its
high-quality wines and distinctive modern labels.
The wines of Brancaia blend classic Italian grapes with
international varieties, bringing a decidedly modern touch to a centuries-old
wine region, for which permanently changed Italy’s winemaking culture.
Brancaia, IL BLU 2016
IL BLU is “the wine that put Brancaia on the map of the most
famous wineries in Tuscany”. (Monica Larner for Robert Parker)
A blend of 70% Merlot, 25% Sangiovese and 5% Cabernet
Sauvignon, IL Blue is a full-bodied wine with ultra-fine tannins and a
flavourful and focused finish. The wine is first aged for 20 months in French
barriques (two thirds new) and then in the bottle for at least another year.
Also celebrating its 30th Birthday this year,
this wine is a classic and has become a symbol for Brancaia and gained
worldwide recognition.
Tasting note: Dark and slightly sweet fruit with aromas of
black cherries and dried blueberries.
Perfect pairing with food with pronounced taste such as beef
or lamb, roast or braised game, and cured meat.
Brancaia, Ilatraia 2016
A top wine of Brancaia from Maremma. It is full-bodied wine
that is extremely silky and polished with supple tannins.
A blend of 40% Petit Verdot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20%
Cabernet Franc, creating a perfect balance between maturity and refinement.
The wine is aged in half new French barriques for 18 months
and left to mature in the bottle for one more year.
Tasting note: Intense aromas of black fruit. A firm and
silky wine with fine tannins and a luscious finish.
Perfect pairing with food that has balanced, intense
flavours like meat and game dishes that is fried or stewed, and poultry such as
pigeon or quail.
Brancaia, Chianti Classico Riserva
A perfect harmonised aroma of cherry, spices, leather and
chocolate. The wine is produced from the best Sangiovese grapes (80%) from
Brancaia and Poppi and then blended with a touch of Merlot (20%). The
Sangiovese matures separately in tonneaux for 16 months, while the Merlot
matures in barriques. The blended wine is then set in the bottle for another
year after bottling.
Tasting note: Intense, medium to full-bodied wine. Long
bouquet of cherry, black fruit and a continuum of spice, leather, tar and
tilled earth. The mouthfeel is equal parts structured, fresh and succulent.
Perfect pairing with grilled meat, roast or braised beef and
veal, stewed dishes, grilled fish and pasta dishes with strong tasting sauces.
