Han Wei is a jovial and optimistic guy who was recently promoted to production butcher supervisor for his enthusiasm at work!
1. Tell us more about yourself and your family.
With much encouragement from my second sister who has been working in Singapore, I left my family in Malaysia and came over to work at Huber’s for 3 years. Though I am not staying with her, she takes good care of me by having meals with me and often buying health supplements like Vitamin C and calcium tablets as well as Korean ginseng drinks to help boost my immune system. With the pandemic situation, we are meeting each other less now and do hope we can go back to visit our family again.
2. What is your favourite pastime?
Watching movies at home with a bag of chips is my favourite pastime after a long day’s work. I enjoy watching action-packed and science-fiction films and would highly recommend Ip Man and Avanta.
3. What are your favourite Singapore dishes?
Back home, my mom always cooks my best-loved Baby bok choy in oyster sauce and garlic oil. Over here, I usually order it from my favourite store near where I stay.
4. What do you enjoy most working at Huber’s?
I am fortunate enough to be surrounded by very nice and patient colleagues who take good care of me. Understanding that my English is bad and that I am green, they often help to translate and show me the ropes to perform to the best of my capability.
5. Do you have any special moments that you find unforgettable working at Huber’s?
The number of orders for last year’s Christmas was incredibly high and to make matters worse, many of our colleagues were still stranded in Malaysia. However, with great teamwork and encouragement, we managed to grit our teeth and complete the challenge, giving me a great sense of achievement!
6. Do share with us one dish that you are proud of preparing it.
As I am not a good cook, normally I would buy packed meals back to eat but on certain days, I would still grab my favourite instant noodles and add my preferred sausages, meatballs and vegetables. And yes, I am proud of preparing a nice dish of instant noodles in my special way lol.
