Khai Liang - 1st Dec 2015

He must be one of the youngest (and eligible) butcher in our store at Dempsey – his name is Khai Liang and we call him Liang for short. He stepped out of his comfort zone in Selangor, Malaysia at the age of 19 and came to Singapore after persistent encouragement from his elder brother. He came to Huber’s immediately thereafter and has been with us since November 2013.
Prior to his re-location to Singapore, he had accumulated 2 years’ of working experience in the food and beverage industry in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – a year as kitchen help in a Japanese restaurant and another year in a Chinese restaurant. His mother was reluctant to see him leave home initially but eventually chose to let him go.
Liang let us in to his childhood: he wasn’t allowed to hang out with his friends. Going home immediately after school every day was the norm for him as was staying home every weekend. Subsequently, he was allowed to hang out and he had to be home by 12 midnight. Today, Liang whispered, he is expected to call his mother every day. Shhhhh.….
You are probably not able to guess what this boy man’s favourite food is so I will tell you: mutton. He likes it enough to have it 3 to 4 times a week. His protective mother is of course aware therefore she makes an effort to cook fish for him every time he returns home for holidays. Liang is usually seen working behind the sausage counter, he also has a hand in making the raw sausages sold in the shop.
