Excite Your Appetite!

In celebration of International Women’s Day, we shine a spotlight on one of the remarkable women who plays a key role behind the scenes at Huber’s Butchery – our talented butcher, Jolin. Her journey with us began as an ITE student during her attachment, where she discovered her passion for the butchery trade. Impressed by the hands-on experience and the welcoming environment, Jolin chose to join us full-time after her graduation, where she quickly established herself as a dedicated and skilled member of the team.

 

Jolin’s curiosity about the behind-the-scenes process of butchery—how meat is prepared, trimmed, and made ready for sale—drove her to further her skills. What started as a temporary position has evolved into a full-time career, driven by her commitment to mastering her craft and providing customers with top-notch service.

 

One of Jolin’s favourite cuts to work with is the hanging tender, prized for its flavour and tenderness. Initially, trimming it was a challenge, but with practice, she now handles it confidently. At home, she often cooks beef skirt, simply seasoned with salt and pepper, and pairs it with blanched French beans to soak up the pan’s rich flavours.

 

When it comes to selecting the best quality meat for customers, Jolin ensures daily quality checks by inspecting the meat’s appearance, smell, and texture. Her commitment to offering only the finest cuts is a key reason why many customers return, specifically seeking her assistance when they visit the butchery.

 

Like many women in traditionally male-dominated industries, Jolin has encountered challenges in gaining customers' trust and meeting the physical demands of her role. However, her determination has helped her build the strength and confidence needed to handle the job independently. She’s particularly proud of the loyal customers who trust her expertise for quality cuts and advice.

 

Jolin stays on top of her craft by researching new cuts and customer preferences, while learning from senior colleagues to refine her skills. Her passion and dedication make her a valued member of the Huber's Butchery team.
