1. Cut beef into bite-sized cubes.
2. In a pan, heat some oil and sear the beef cubes until brown. Set aside for later.
3. In a pot, sauté the aromatics and spices.
4. Once fragrant, add in the beef, water, and cover the pot. Bring it to a boil.
5. When boiling, add in the seasonings and let it simmer.
6. After 20 minutes, add carrots and potatoes to the pot.
7. Once the beef is tender, add cornstarch to thicken the sauce and serve.
