Qing Tao - 1st Mar 2017
Qing Tao came to Singapore in 2012 from Shandong in the north-eastern part of China in search of a better life. He joined Huber’s shortly after and hasn’t looked back since. At Huber’s, he works Monday to Friday 7am to 5pm and Saturday 7am to 11.30am. As his place is a stone’s throw away from the Huber’s factory, he gets to start preparing dinner at about 5.30pm. Qing Tao enjoys cooking therefore it is not surprising that he cooks every day. If you express any form of doubt that he can cook, he would exclaim with pride that “Every Chinese national can cook!”

1998 was the year he acquainted his then-colleague-now-wife. They married in 2004 following a typical Chinese lunch banquet of 100 to 200 guests. A typical Chinese banquet means the venue was at their home. Well, it seems it is the culture in China to host your wedding banquet in your house and if need be, it is acceptable to spill over to your neighbours’ place. In 2012, in a bid to make a higher salary, Qing Tao started contemplating re-locating. His wife also encouraged him to do so and before you know it, he was on the plane to Singapore.

Qing Tao chats with his wife, and daughter, aged 14, online every night. Both his parents are retired and they grow onions, apples peanuts, corn in their free time for their own consumption. In his free time, Qing Tao enjoys a good beer, chatting with friends and chilling out at home.
