Barossa Free Range Eggs - 1st Mar 2020
If you recall, we mentioned in our newsletter last week that
SFA (Singapore Food Agency) has recently started approving free-range eggs.
We are happy to announce that we have now brought one more
option for your eggs – the Barossa Free Range Eggs.
Sourced from Solar Eggs' Barossa Valley farm, Barossa Free Range Eggs represents premium South Australian eggs that are large in size with yolks that are orange, thick and full flavoured! It is launched in March 2016 by Solar Eggs.
Where welfare permits, Barossa Valley hens range daily. That
is, should there be extreme weather such as heat (above 35°C), hail, electrical
storms, or wind storms, the hens’ safety takes priority and they will be kept
safe inside sheds. Otherwise, they are on the range every day from 10:30am until
dark, with plenty of room at a density of 5,000 hens per hectare.
Quality fencing was also built with substantial amounts of
money for the purpose of protecting the hens from foxes. Each paddock also has
two dedicated Alpacas to protect the flock. They do not use dogs like other
farms do as the hens will eat the dog faeces and this can cause egg quality
issues.
Solars Eggs has also been awarded
money by the South Australian government to help build five free-range sheds,
in the government’s bid to support egg production in the state in view of the increased
demand for free range eggs.

About
Solar Eggs Farms
Solar
Eggs works to provide the best environments for all their hens. With three
generations of poultry farming experience, the directors have the knowledge and
reputation for designing and sourcing the best equipment available to create
“hen paradise”. This includes air conditioning, anytime access to fresh feed
and water, LED lighting and roll-away nests. Their hens have space and luxury
in a safe environment within their shed during non-ranging times.
They
have also invested millions of dollars in acquiring old cage farms and
converting them into modernised Free Range Sheds. The sheds overlook natural
forest environments and the ranges attached to each shed allow the hens to have
access to this pristine setting, a perfect environment for a ranging hen.
As
bio-security is of great concern, Solar Eggs has established a ring of farms
around Adelaide. Each farm is far enough away from one another to prevent
multiple-farm contamination if an outbreak occurs. Their grading and processing
facility is also strategically located off farm. This is critically important
as grading cannot continue on the site should a farm have an outbreak. Solar
Eggs is the only producer with this level of protection in South Australia.
Solar
Eggs has also passed all state and national accreditation and leads
theindustry in Quality Assurance practice.
